Frequently Asked Questions

To enrol for a course you need:

• To be at least 18 years old on the start date of the course or over 16 years old and not have done compulsory schooling in Catalonia.
• To demonstrate your level of Catalan proficiency by means of a certificate for a general CPNL course, a certificate issued by the ministry in charge of language policy in the Government of Catalonia, another equivalent certificate or doing a level test.

If you've never taken a course with the CPNL, before the enrolment period starts we need to ascertain your prior level of Catalan.

You can check your level online or in person at your nearest centre by:

• Providing a Catalan certificate on the list of qualifications equivalent to the Catalan language proficiency certificates issued by the ministry in charge of language policy in the Government of Catalonia.
• Taking a level test.

If you assess your level online, see determining your level.

You can ask to do a level test online or in person at your nearest centre. You can ask to do this test at any time of year. To ensure you have the result so you can enrol, you need to apply no later than two working days before the start of the enrolment period. If you apply to do it outside this period, we can't guarantee that you'll have the result in time to enrol during the corresponding period.

We'll post the deadline for applying to do this test on the enrolment platform at least a fortnight before the first day of enrolment.

The CPNL offers general courses and add-on courses for adults.

The general courses are structured in a number of learning levels:

• Beginner level (A1)
• Basic level (A2)
• Elementary level (B1)
• Intermediate level (B2)
• Advance level (C1)
• Proficiency level (C2)

CPNL regulations set the number of places for the various types of courses. Online courses have a limited number of places to ensure the quality of teaching and learning. In each course, a tutor monitors students' progress on an individual basis: they mark written assignments, review oral interventions, assess the student's learning and in some cases prepare live classes.
